I offer a hands-on, in-school consultation service to help schools manage challenging behaviours and avoid further suspensions or even exclusions.
How I work
As an Educational Consultant I meet with the team and learn as much as possible about what's going on for the child who's struggling. It's very important I also understand the adults' experiences of being with the child both at home and school to gain a full picture and understand the needs.
Often, the child or young person is already on a reduced time table, receiving regular suspensions or facing permanent exclusion. I bring together everything that is already known and, in collaboration with the SENCO, teachers, TAs and parents, write a plan of intervention specifically to help improve the child's daily experiences using a therapeutic approach focused on de-escalation. I tend to visit on a regular basis for a time to support the adults who are implementing the strategies and to adjust the plan in response to their feedback.
Only when a child feels safe, happy and relaxed are they able and ready to learn. I can create a safe space in which your child can learn that mistakes are necessary for learning. I am passionate about what I do and find my work highly rewarding.

About me
I’m a classroom teacher turned specialist after becoming frustrated at the lack of time and resources available to meet the specific needs of the children who struggle in school. I offer a hands-on, in-school consultation service to help schools manage challenging (often violent) behaviours and avoid further suspensions and exclusions. Once the difficult behaviours are better-understood they can be better-managed.
I begin by meeting the team and learning as much as possible about what's going on for the child and adults around them. This initial meeting is carried out at no charge. I use this information and my 20+ years’ of classroom experience to formulate a whole school plan.

Makaton (all modules)
BSL Level 2
Various Speech and language, ASD, PDA, GDD, ADHD, Dyslexia, (P)LAC, Trauma, Attachment courses over my teaching and parenting career.
While I continue to build even further on my knowledge and experience of working in a theraputic way with children who have attachment difficulties and have experienced trauma, I hold no formal theraputic qualifications and am not a therapist. I simply use what I know to inform my teaching and offer advice.
I have enhanced DBS and am on the update service as I also work as a supply teacher for the Local Authority

What to expect
Step 1: I will gather knowledge of the current situation
Step 2: I will plan a bespoke, strategy-based intervention which focuses on de-escalation
Step 3: I will support in the delivery of that intervention
Cost
My rate is £40 per hour online/in school
£20.00 per half hour online/in school
Schools:
Initial phonecalls, observations and conversations in school are free of charge. Formal meetings (ie with other professionals involved or meetings with parents/carers) will be charged at the same rate given above. Travel costs will be only be incurred if you are located more than 20 miles from the Ipswich area.
Payment is required half-termly in advance or on a weekly basis; whatever suits you best.
I'll send full terms and conditions within a contract should you take up my services.
