What I offer

I offer a creative and bespoke tuition service to primary-aged children (with or without Special Educational Needs).  This may be online or face to face.

"Lizzie is extremely child centred and is able to see the positives in everyone with who she works children and adults."

Assistant Head Teacher, Queen Boudica Primary School

“As a parent I have really valued Lizzie knowing exactly where my son is at and found her advice and guidance reassuring.  Lizzie makes learning appealing and fun and has given my son practical tools to make him feel more confident. I have seen in a short space of time his confidence grow and his reading get quicker and smoother."

Parent of Year 5 Pupil

“As a result of Lizzie’s input we have been able support a child with extremely challenging behaviours here in school and ensure that they did not receive any further suspensions.”

Year 2 Class Teacher

As a Tutor I support children by starting with gaining an understanding of how they experience learning in the classroom.  It may be they feel unable or unwilling to engage in classroom learning or find it difficult to focus.  There are so many reasons why a child might fall behind and understanding this is critical in helping them to learn.  I start from where the child is, without judgement or shame.

Only when a child feels safe, happy and relaxed are they able and ready to learn.  I can create a safe space in which your child can learn that mistakes are necessary for learning.  I am passionate about what I do and find my work highly rewarding.

Information:

  • Who Am I?

I'm a qualified and experienced primary school teacher who parents two children with a range of diagnoses.  I am committed to the PACE approach in both my parenting and teaching.  I've been teaching for over twenty years and have always had a special interest in supporting children with special needs.

I love anything to do with bikes and teaching.  I have lots of dyslexic and ADHD traits myself but I've learned to manage the challenges in a way that benefits me, rather than hinders.  It means I have lots of energy, creativity and enthusiasm which is perfect for teaching.

I have been co-delivering NVR courses online to adoptive families, SGOs and foster carers for over a year.  I am currently completing my Level 3 NVR Practitioner Qualification and am registered with NVR UK.  I also work with individual families to help then learn and apply the NVR approach to help make life calmer for their children and young people.

  • Qualifications

    PGCE Primary Education

    Diploma in Psychology

Level 2 NVR (Non-Violent Resistance linked to PAC-UK)

    BA Hons

    CELTA

    Makaton (all modules)

    BSL Level 2

Various Speech and language, ASD, PDA, GDD, ADHD, Dyslexia, (P)LAC, Trauma, Attachment courses over my teaching and parenting career.

While I continue to build even further on my knowledge and experience of working in a theraputic way with children who have attachment difficulties and have experienced trauma, I hold no formal theraputic qualifications and am not a therapist.  I simply use what I know to inform my teaching and offer advice.

I have enhanced DBS and am on the update service as I also work as a supply teacher for the Local Authority

  • Experience

I have taught in all types of state and private schools, I've also worked as a supply teacher in a range of socio-economic areas, 1:1 tutor to manage excuded children's education in the home, managing transitions back into school from exclusion or school refusal.  I've made a point of teaching all age ranges from Reception (EYFS) to Year 6 and I currently tutor a number of pupils regularly online in addition to working in schools (face to face) with specific children who are struggling.

  • Who Am I For?

I offer tuition for any child 4-11 years old who needs a bit of help with their learning.  Your child may or may not have diagnosis/es.  You may just feel worried that your child is struggling at school and they need a bit of a boost.  Perhaps they are in need of something more.  Whatever situation you're in, perhaps I can help.  Make contact with a brief summary of your child's situation and we'll take it from there.

  • How I work

First, I'll need to speak to you about your situation and what your child needs.  It may be that our sessions can take place at school if the school is willing and able to accommodate it.  Alternatively, an after school, lunchtime or even weekend session may be possible.  Regardless of when the sessions take place, I strongly encourage communication between teacher, tutor and adults so your child can experience a consistent approach and everyone is aware of their success and progress.

I will set up a Google Slides presentation which I'll use to plan and record lesson content, set homework (if required) and post resources.  I will share this with you and teachers so there is an ongoing collaborative approach and open communication.

Sessions are £40 per hour online/in school
